AN Update

as seen in the above pictures, birdie has progressed well.

i did some more research about Birdie's condition and got some advice from a vet in India. according to him Birdie seems to have scratched the pink area from inside and that's why its swollen. he suggested an antibiotic (sulphudim) to be given and as much as soft food like apples.I've been doing that till now and she has shown a good progress rate. i felt good knowing something about whats going on. anyways i will still keep updating.

the pictures might not look so good since i took them by a hand phone, my camera got busted the other day.heheh

Birdie is sick again

Birdie got sick during the past two to three weeks, first it started with a cold and she was inactive. i rinsed the hardened mucus near her nostrils everyday, such as my previous blog articles we don't have any vets in Maldives so its a tough challenge for me to treat her.after giving medicines available here the cold was better but then something weird happened. the pink area under the lower beak got swollen like a bubble.i ve never seen any case like this before and was in need of urgent help from any vet. so i wrote for an advise, as follows:

Hello! The expert can't answer your question.

Your Question was:

i have a Congo African Grey.we dont have any vets where i come from.please advise why the pink area under the beak is swelling like a bubble and advice any common treatment that i can give.

please visit my blog to learn more

Following is the reason:

-- Even a vet wouldn't be able to treat their own bird at home. Unless you are equipped to do a needle biopsy and X-ray to determine what kind of growth or 'bubble' this is, and take a culture to see if it grows a bacteria, I'm afraid that you can't do this on your own.

===
If someone is breeding these birds and selling them, then there's a vet who is treating them. Birds that have an expected lifespan of 65 years cannot possibly thrive without having a doctor.

Just like you can't have a baby and expect it to live a long, healthy life without a doctor's visit now and then.

its understandable and i do agree there's a need for proper check up for birds like mine.but unfortunately the situation where avian medical advise is impossible here in the Maldives, we have to rely on own research and hope for the best. i am certain 100% that there aren't any veterinarians here in the Maldives. all breeders rely on their past experiences to treat these birds. i am really trying to find whats causing this problem in Birdie. she eats well talks and is active but why is this part of the bird swollen up, is it something i did wrong mistakenly? i m just concerned so much about this and will not stop until i find a treatment that works for my bird.

i don't have anything against the response given to me by allexperts.com, due to my situation i m just a guy who wants to help others like me who doesn't have the opportunity to do any research. modern training and caring techniques were introduce in Maldives recently, people here are now aware that its not just a bird in a cage, it has its own needs as well.

i will keep updating for the benefit of my friends who reads my blog.

New free flight training for Birdie

Good news guys, after I read this new blog ( CARLY LU’S FLIGHT BLOG )
About an African grey being free flown and how the owner has successfully flown her CAG on the beach I have decided to follow her strategies and apply on Birdie since I’ve been trying so hard to be able to free fly Birdie without a harness for a long time.

I think I just have a fear of losing Birdie if I tried without a harness, therefore with new hope I am trying to overcome my fear and go for free flight with birdie, there is a reason why I m scared coz there were two incidents where birdie happened to fly off out of reach in the past, luck brought her safely back to me, then again I always think next time I won’t be able to find her and would lose my beloved bird forever.

After reading this blog I’ve got an idea how to interact with Birdie in a more convenient way for both of us. Good reinforcements and careful recognition of Birdies Body languages will allow me to input a greater training sequence to Birdie. I also found a really important fact on emergency recall which I haven’t tried at all with Birdie. By doing this I will be able to recall Birdie back to me just in case she tries to fly out of sight again.
Really good theories and every Grey owner should try to read up things like these to improve the quality time between you and your bird. It’s a new day everyday as the world keeps on coming with new stuff on how to improve these adored relationships. This blog helped me a lot and if she is happening to read my blog it’s an honor indeed. Many thanks to her my family have a better solution for Birdie to stay with us at all times.

What the heck it’s a new year, my family and me being curious of what lies ahead of us this year, could be for the better or worse?! Exiting as it is Birdie becomes 1 year old on the 23rd of this month, my baby Aisha turns 4months old 17th this month, so with lots of ambitions and new plans I start my new year with great hope and prosperity

Birdie gone jealous

I still don’t get what’s happening to Birdie’s personality as she persists to be jealous of my baby Aisha(3mnths). She grows weary as days pass and I have noticed her plucking her own feather, which means it can only be due to stress and lack of attention towards her.
Just imagine I work 8-10 hrs on a daily basis leaving Birdie in the garden area where she spends most of her time entertaining herself. My wife on the other hand has her hands full with Aisha as she grows up pretty fast. Therefore lack of attention towards Birdie is leading towards stress which can lead to feather plucking.
I have many experiences with parrots like grey’s and find it unusual that they get so emotionally challenged when I take interest in a new thing other than them. Birdie is still young and has a great chance of being aggressive if I don’t take any action soon.
I bought a cage specially designed for parrots like Birdie and I plan to take her view close to me and my family inside the apartment. Which I think will allow Birdie to realize we’re just one big family.
Birdie is still early in her feather plucking stages, so I ‘ll need to buy some more toys and make her self occupied with some more things to do which will help in bringing her back to her self. Below are some pics that I borowed from the web which will get you readers a good idea of what I m talking about.

Birdie has some stress issues, coz of jeolosy, she is jeolouse of my baby Aisha, since Birdie see's me with her more often these days and feels some sort of abandonment.
